Franzella Faye

When I was pregnant with Melody I wanted to name her after my great grandma: Franzella Faye (then call her Ze'ly). While no one liked the name it was a go until I was 6 months along and it was discovered that she never liked her name (which is why she went by Faye).

I have convinced Melody that this is a great name and she has even committed at age 10 to name her first daughter this.

It has been brought to my attention by those closest to me that this is a terrible name. I still love the name and would appreciate continued affirmation so that some day my grand daughter can carry the name.

Thank you in advance :)

I must confess that at first glance I was reminded by this cheese I tried in italy. Then after much thought it was the end result of said cheese that brought me to this memory.

It is with respect and love that I submit this story. ciao bella :)

Melody changed her mind. Her first daughter is going to be named Kimberly Ann.

Thanks again for the help on the Sydney Lens, but PLEASE don't burden the child with such an abomination - no offense to Great Grandma.

I am in agreeance with David...not trying to hurt Great Grandma's feelings though!!

I don't see anything wrong with it!!! Not sure I like Ze'ly though.
How about Fran? or Zella? I had a friend named Fran in high school. Ella is way popular, but Zella is a new twist on it.

hmmm... Jane, I was really going for you on this one. BUT, after searching through several name sites, trying to find the meaning of Franzella, I had to give up. Even in a 50,000 name database, no Franzella. Even on UniqueBabyNames.com, no Franzella. I can't vote for a name with no meaning, so I gotta pass :( Unless "being named after relative" is its meaning!

I still love the name

Sorry Jane...Zella isn't so bad though...

KT, It's more likely that Jessica will name her first daughter after you...then again all three of them might!

I'd like to give kudos to David for continuing to comment regularly even after the purchase of the Sydney lens was complete!

Oh and definitely no offense to Great Grandma. Family names I won't be passing along: Susan, Joan, Dorothy, Barbara, Brenda, Louise.

I like Franzella Faye . . . it kicks the hoohoo out of "Lois" (also a G'ma name, obviously) but who knows what the hip name styles will be by the time Melody has kids! Tell her to morph it into some cute and unobjectionable rendition like Franzie, or Zella Rae (another G'ma nod in your fam!). Just sit around and practice nicknames to prevent mean kids from making into something cruel and insulting. Delaney has morphed into LayLoo and she's only 18 months old.

I loved it then, and still do!

I have never been big on passing on family names. I think everyone should have their own unique name. She should name her daughter Franzella because she likes the name not because it it a family name or because her mother wants her to. Sorry.
