Family party

I often rib my kids for their lack of planning now that they have cell phones. Rather than picking a time and place it is literally the lazy factor of calling friends right then and there.
.
Today at the family gathering Ned's Subs was closed. Never fear, everyone called to say they would be late which one by one brought all of the phones out (another new generation addiction I rib the kids about). Look at this picture, look at this application, look at this picture of the picture I took while he was taking a picture.
.
Epiphanies from this photo:
  • The Bold looks an awful lot like the IPhone
  • Ruth needs a new phone before May
  • The first generation and last generation blackberries missed the photo op
  • As much as we talk about the girls hands looking like my mothers, holy cow look at the identical hands of Joe and my dad
  • The Pearl may actually be smaller than the Behold
  • I have Droid envy
  • The pioneers could have never survived this
  • Emma is cute

Highs and lows of Thanksgiving travel

Going up 38.4 million Americans will travel 50 or more miles from home over the Thanksgiving holiday, a 1.4 percent increase over last year, according to AAA. (that's me :))

33.2 million will travel by auto, a 2.1 percent increase. (that's me :))

2.9 million will travel by other means, including trains, watercraft and buses, a 1.2 percent increase. (not me)

Heading down 2.3 million will travel by air, a 6.7 percent decline. Only 6 percent of travelers will fly. (not me :))

Why? The decrease reflects a decadelong trend. Since 2000, the number of Americans traveling by air for the Thanksgiving holiday has dropped 62 percent, according to AAA. (not me - thank goodness!)

New Moon

Bragging rights: MJM and I watched New Moon at 3 am in the Cine Capri. Kim calls me a suck up, REM calls us crazy, Ruth calls it cool (and cooler in you join Team Jacob), and MJM actually held my hand through the whole movie.

Mount Rushmore i n 17 minutes or less

The historical family journey ended with a 45 minute drive through the Black Hills, 17 minutes for posing with presidential figures and 37 minutes drive back to the airport.

If you have good pictures. What else do you need?

Jenn made me do this........

So the other morning I am on CST time and a little confused about what time zone I am in. Its what I believe to be 545 AM and I am blogging and catching up on email. At this ungodly hour Jenn sends me a BBM.

.
I respond to her "What are you doing up at 345 am", she politely tells me I'm a dork and it is 445 am in California. The realization hits that I have less than 20 minutes to get to work. I respond back with a huge thank you, some vulgarity and "I have to go do my hair".

.
When I get there I am told we are doing badges that day, and I am having my class picture. I forever owe Jenn the fact that I have good hair in my photo id.

In gratitude I am fulfilling her request (which was orginally sent to her as a look what you have to look forward to email to post my Demi Moore photo.

Only in Middle America

Earlier this week I was on an airplane that dropped 30 feet after we had an "aborted take off". I thought my heart couldnt take any more stress. That was until I am in no where Wyoming and Tami yells out, " Laura.....deer (not Laura, dear. it was Laura......deer!).
.
Curve, turn, near miss (geez sounds like the pilot). Poor heart.
.
Repeat 3 more times.
.
Upon arrving to town we are told by the innkeeper that it is hunting season and the deer come to town because they cant be shot down in cold blood here (shot down in cold blood is my words).
.
Oh and the photo of the cold hunters getting food at subway. The hunter on the right is a female. Now that must be love.

Happy Birthday Merlin O'Haver

About the adventure.....................
.
It all started with a broken foot. Tami broke her foot several months ago and rather than sitting idle in misery she began to research family history. One relative led to another to another led to Merlin who is the my great great grandfather Elmer O'Haver's nephew.
.
100 years, a full life and finding where we all belong.
.
Happy Birthday Merlin!

CHW Ghosts

I have worked at CHW for almost 4 years and have heard more stories about Jerry Adams and John Furniss than I can even begin to describe. Both of these gentleman have bravely served as the Client Executive at CHW before I took either of my two posts. This week in Dell Services Way I finally got to interact with them both. Now I just need to meet Lynelle.

The blog that almost wasnt

While in Texas do as the Texans do. So I donned a cowboy hat while visiting South Fork. (Not to be a braggart, but I looked hot).
Tarzan on the other hand did not. In an effort to show how great he looks in other hats, Queen B brought out this collection for his photo shoot. He wouldn't participate. I think this is the first time he has ever told me no. :(

Second Grade Rules

CEM's teacher went on maternity leave this week. Since this is a big change in a 6 year old's life i was asking how she was adapting this morning as I was doing her hair. I asked her if she liked her new teacher and if she had new rules.

Without hestitation and without pause CEM responded, "Oh no, the rules are the same. Keep on task, be kind to others, speak when appropriate, follow directions right the first time, raise your hand to talk. You know all the stuff that second graders have to do."

I've been to the year 2000

Family photo in dad's model hummer (which CEM now thinks he is going to will to her)

It seemed like a good idea

Decided that driving 30 minutes to get a free hamburger with 4000 other people was too much to do on a Wednesday night.
