I can sew.
Tami and I started a bib making business (it never really took off-but they were great gifts for baby showers for the 12 years that followed).
As a 4-H'er I made a shirt and dress for the county fair. When I was in x-ray school I actually made my own scrubs.
I make a quilt once a year to give away but outsource all mending these days.

While I'm vacationing - Something you may not have known (Day 7)
I skipped third grade.
My dad spent hours doing non-traditional school work with me while traveling:
My dad spent hours doing non-traditional school work with me while traveling:
- "Laura if we are traveling 60 miles an hour how long will it take us to travel 100 miles? What about if we travel 45 miles an hour for 200 miles?"
- "Laura, what do you think about the bicentennial?'
- "Laura tell me about the book you just read"
- "Laura can you write a poem about the sky"
And then my dad spent hours convincing Dr Charlton to move me up a grade. A move I forever owe him for.
Shane Scott and Leslie Rose were my best friends at Plain City Elementary School (and probably the only ones who didn't call me "THE BOSS" - not a cool nick name when you are under age 10).Saturday, May 29, 2010

While I'm vacationing - Something you may not have known (Day 5)
Sports - Softball
While I often claim ignorance on most sports I did in fact play on a couple teams outside of dance. Never great at volleyball or basketball I did figure out how to do a great hit between the pitcher and first base. The first time this is hit I would make a homerun. After that I get out everytime.

While I'm vacationing - Something you may not have known (Day 1)
I collect giraffes.
At the heighth of my collection I had over 300. When I moved from Arizona from Utah I lost several of them (skinny legs and necks do not travel well). My collection has grown over the years when my friends at Maricopa found out and my office starting filling with them.
I love the tall lean look of this animal (and talk about a cool tongue). My giraffes now have a great home in my china cabinet and library.

Matching Shirts
When I posted the doors on flashback friday several weeks ago Queen B was enamored by the matching shirts and wanted more detail.
I grew up in Utah where apparently it was normal to have a school dance every other month. (rotating between boys choice/girls choice and formal/matching shirts)
Mathcing shirts required

Mesa is a Small Town
In 1883, Mesa City was incorporated with a population of 300 people. We are now about 400,000 strong (we will only truly now when the census is complete).
Living in a "small" town I often run into those that know my sisters.
If I am in the Elementary School, Jr High School, High School, Band and other music extracurricular, Sewing, Embroidery, Dancing, Church circles I hear:
-Oh you must be Tamara's sister
-You walk like her
-You talk like her
-Wow you look like Tamara
-How tall is her son?
-How does she do it all?
If I am in the Medical, Blog, Church, Under 8 year old sports circles I hear:
-Oh you must be Ruth's sister
-You walk like her
-You talk like her
-Wow you look like Ruth
-How many kids does she have
-How does she do it all?
While Tamara rarely reports those that claim "Oh you must be Laura's sister" we do revel in the joy when people notice us together and put on the total Young sister show with arms a waving, voice inflection strengthened.
Ruth has recently reported two claims:
-At church - Oh your the sister of the mom of the two girls that look like twins that aren't twins
-At nail salon - (insert Vietnamese voice here) Oh you sister comes in with her man and kids all the time. She nice, he funny
Maybe I need to spend more time in Mesa or introduce them into more of my circles

We Rock IT
New series alert:Digital cameras bring a whole new aspective to picture taking. Instead of being surprised at the oddities of a photo when you get the prints after being developed (oh remember that great fun), you get to alter the moment to exactly what you want.
Look how good we covered that other company. And you look hot. We're good.
