It's all in a name

My name is Laura (this post is not meant to confuse anyone who thinks my name is really Jane).

My name is pronounced LAR A not LOR A. That said, I have never corrected anyone when they have said it wrong. While slightly annoying the general population usually will call out LOR A. Probably so much so that I don't even realize it half the time.

Growing up Tami used to beat up kids at the bus stop if they said it wrong, she would let my teachers know and lord help any guy that I dated. She even corrected my assistant when she answered the phone incorrectly.

I have the best voicemail in the world. "The voice" recorded it saying LOR A. While I didn't even think about correcting it big sister would nag everytime she called.

So it is fixed. And my New Year's resolution is to pay attention when it is pronounced incorrectly. It may be difficult at work now that 1000 people know me as LOR A.

I'm with Tami 1000%!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cringe whenever I hear LORA, I especially hate it when on the morning operations call you say:

"This is LARA" and then 2 seconds later you will hear somebody said "Now, LORA What do you think?"

The office needs to be re-educated on the correct pronunciation.

I think I have always called you Laura...now I'm worried I'll say it wrong. I know what you mean about correcting someone early on, I do not like to be called Em but by only a very few people. If I don't nip it in the beginning, them I feel I can't correct someone years later. Hope you can get us all corrected..Auntie Em

I do believe I have always said your name correctly. I have a certain brother who has always said it wrong. I think he did it on purpose to bug you. I always correct him.

Thanks to one and all. I love Laura (LAR A) and never realized it would be a problem, but then I never thought RuthAnne would always have to be RuthAnne with an E, or everyone would want to call Alice - Allison or some other variation. I am lucky, everyone pronounces my name right - they just never spell it right (or for that matter - know if I a boy or girl) - oh well! Mom (everyone can do that right!)
