A Game of Inches

Tarzan often refers to football as a game of inches (Al Pacino spouts out some of the best quotes in relations to this in the movie Any Given Sunday).  There has never been a better example of that then Sunday's Super Bowl.  Either team could have won and by inches.

So, fair warning.  I am in reflective mode.  Monday on a "routine flight" to Sacramento I watched a man fighting for his life 4 feet from me. Both Kim and Tarzan asked how I felt, and how my emotions were (and honestly up until this minute I was just annoyed that his heart attack caused me to get to my bed an hour and a half later then planned.).

I have always loved the movie Sliding Doors. Its a flick where a London woman's love life and career, unknown to her, on whether or not she catches a train. We see it powerfully both ways, in parallel.  Another game of inches.

Every day, every moment, you make choices on how to act or respond.  My airplane "friend" made a fighting choice to live to see another day. His game won by having 3 physicians on the plane, and being able to land 8 minutes early, By sitting in the same seat I sit in four times a week and being responsible for tracking the altitude of the flight I recognize that my game has shifted, for the positive.

Through any act, large or small you have the power to positively influence. As John Quincy Adams said, "The influence of each human being on others in this life is a kind of mortality." So I ask you: What is your Sliding Door? How many inches have you moved recently?

Life is amazing!

Truly amazing. These moments are constant and so often we don't realize it. Good reminder.

Wow. So Sliding Doors has been in my Netflix queue for about 4 years now. Maybe time to move it up a bit.

I think you already know what a great influence you have been and are to me, thank you! I need to see sliding doors. Lucky man to have 3 Dr's on board.

This is an amazing post and wonderful reminder, thank you. It is all so very true what just a few seconds one way or the other can do to you and your circumstances. (And, I Love Sliding Doors).
