Status Bora Bora is part of French Polynesia, a French overseas possession, claimed in 1843. Settled by the Polynesians in 850, and part of the Society Islands, it's arguably the most famous island in the world

Climate Tropical conditions with some rainfall in the summer months (November - April). Ideal conditions exist from May - October as trade winds cool the island

General Information Discovered in 1722, it's name mean "First Born." Made famous by books, movies, and its incredible beauty and natural attributes (especially the wonderful beaches), it's now besieged by tourism and overcrowding. Regardless, if you must visit a South Pacific island, Bora Bora would be an excellent choice.
Location Description It's about 160 miles northwest of Tahiti and approximately 2,600 miles south of Hawaii
Terrain A rich green, mountainous main island and a few smaller islands, completely surrounded by coral reefs. The central lagoon, according to novelist James Michener, "is so stunning, there are really no adequate words to describe it."
