Jeffrey the Janitor

ALICE'S GUEST SPOT:

Alice forwarded the email to the family the other day about her step-son - too great not to share!

Jeffrey asked me yesterday if he could make some money by working at the office. I had plenty of cleaning to do so I told him to come on down. My first assignment for him was the bathrooms. He is quite the janitor. He made sure to let all us girls in the office know that he would be cleaning. Here's what I found as I walked by:

One of these things are not like the other

Can this many cop cars really need to be fixed? And the blue one, "Hey jr we got room for one more car wanna get that blue crown vic and I'll haul it?" Or is it just a decoy?

Who's Cuter?

My children and I have this game:
.
Who's cuter (fill in your favorite princess)
.
Jessica or Cinderella (it's always Jessica)
Melody or Ariel (it's always Melody)
Brittney or Snow White (it's always Brittney)
Mom or Belle (it's always Belle)
.
So, I was thinking:
Who's Cuter: The Hulk or Megan?
Who's cuter: Kung Fu Panda or Jessica?

You're it!

I was tagged by Andrea for a six word description memoir meme, oh my much harder than it sounds. I'm in!

Mother of three who loves life

Here are the rules for this meme:

1) Write your own six-word memoir about yourself. 2) Post it on your blog and include a visual illustration if you'd like. 3) Link to the person that tagged you in your post and to this original post if possible, so we can track it as it travels across the blogosphere. 4) Tag five more blogs with links. 5) And don't forget to leave a comment on the tagged blogs with an invitation to play.

Ruth, Paula, Ann H, Ann N, Lois : consider yourself tagged!

If you can't see me...................

Many of you have heard me tell my kids: "If you can't see me, I can't see you". What you may not know is the origin behind it.
.
When Brittney was small and I was teaching her how to use public restrooms without her mom in the stall I would always take the stall next to her. The whole time she was going to the bathroom I would say, "Can you see my shoes? Ok let me see your shoes". Then whoever got done first would go stand in front of the other ones stall with their feet within view. It then would end with, "Good job Brittney, if I can see you, you can see me".
.
The tradition continues:

As Seen on Braun Family Circus

Kim and I stumbled upon Braun Family Circus http://andreabraun.blogspot.com/ a couple months. She has a Flashback Friday every week. With her permission (thanks!), it will now be a feature on Jane Says.
.
Today's flashback is the first day of First and Second Grade for Brittney and Melody (though Jessica is smart, she was still not in grade school in this pic).
.
Note: this is pre-glasses and long before Brittney was even thinking about 7th grade parties.

How old are you?

Conversation this morning with my dad:

DAD I just saw a sign: "I’m not really 40 – I’m 18 with 22 years experience", how old are you?

JANE: I guess that makes me 18 with 18 years experience, how old are you?

DAD: I’m just 63

Runts

The discussion at breakfast (after the hostess delivered a bowl of free runts) surrounded whether you like Bananas or not. I tried to save the double one for Ruth but Jessica decided it was her favorite.

Paula, Jane, Jessica love banana
Brittney, Melody not so much

Before................................................After

Children come first

Growing up isn't easy and going through a divorce isn't any easier. Anyone who has gone through it knows that the feeling of failure is hard to overcome. There are two sides to every story, and even then the facts get scewed.

This post is a sincere apology to those of you who may have witnessed some crass comments and untruths on my and other blogs in the past fews days. I will continue to take the high road but will not tolerate the harrassment to me, my family, other families and friends.

The blog is a happy place. It is the place where I get to be me and share it with people across the world. I love my visitors and I love the comments. You will not take that joy from me.

To the mermaid: we are more alike than you realize. You are being fed a line of junk from a crazed lunatic. You now know so little of the truth and are now victim to his stalking. From my heart I am sorry.

All: Not only is this my space in which I am asking you to please respect it, but remember the children are looking.

Why Men shouldnt have action figures

This week my friend was telling Jessica about a time he got in trouble when he was young. He got all of this toys taken away so he would sneak into his sister's room and play with Barbies. He was describing cool he thought she was as an action figure.

Shortly thereafter KC sent me this email with the title. "why men shouldnt have action figures". Poor Barbie.

Eating out with Jane

I am not a big chain restaurant eater. I do however love great local place. The atmosphere is as important as the food, and the more unique the better. One of my new favorites is a "Italian/Mediterrean Cuisine".

The best thin crust pizza (gyro mediterrean - yummy), and a sampler plate with dormas (grape leaves) to die for.

And a waitress with a cool name.

New Obsession

Almost 10 years ago I had my eyeliner tattoed on. For those who have followed the blog for any amount of time you know that it was the most horrific pain of all time. 5 years ago it needed a touch up. As painful as it was the vanity was worth it. Some how the pain was even worse the second go round.
.
I took a picture of my eye (long story having to do with x-ray versus laser vision) and noticed that my eyeliner looks horrible. It has turned blue and darn will need to be retouched. I really dont know if I can endure the pain.
.
Crap, why does Kim's have to look so fresh and hot (sorry Ruth)???? And why can't I stop thinking about the color blue?

Another Man's Treasure

I am all for collecting donations (one man's trash is another man's treasure). I am however a little hesitant to a collection that happens right in front of Jesus' open arms.

Happy Mothers Day Part 2

My dad has a theory that mother's day is rough for moms (expectations, memories, etc.). I am happy to report that I had a wonderful day. From a mom perspective and as the daughter

From my kids:
1. My mom taught me that I shouldnt fight with me sisters (even though I want to)
2. I love it when my mom tells me about when she was a kid
3. I love singing Jimmy Buffett "Come Monday" with my mom
4. I love my mom because she makes me happy when I am down
5. My mom is funny when she tries to make me laugh (and it doesnt work)
6. I love my mom because she helps me and shows me how to put my clothes away
7. Gifts from the heart - the love rock, the flower pot, rice krispy kiss and the frame
8. I love sharing a birthday and life with my mom

From my mom:
1. Life is not fair
2. The universe does not care
3. The only constant in life is change
4. Wishing does not make it so
5. A person cant exceed their limits
6. It is impossible to change the character of another
7. A person is responsible for their own happiness
8. There is always a choice
9. No one is exempt from death
10. Physics rules the universe and biology rules life

Happy Mother's Day

A young boy said to his mother, 'How old were you when I was born?' His mother replied, '23.' 'Wow, that's a lot of time we missed spending together.' - Unknown

Executive In Training

Every morning on the way to school my children "get" to listen to the daily operations call for my work.

Overtime they have learned conference call etiquette: They understand that someone leads the call and the need for all to pay attention. When mom needs to talk and when that have to be completely quiet.

They hate the lead in music, they have picked up IT lingo, they get annoyed by the same voices that annoy me and don't like the whole mute concept ("sorry I was on mute" or hearing noises - no explanation necessary-because someone is not using mute). This morning we had a major mute problem. The call leader reminded the attendees to mute a couple times. Finally Jessica said, "someone needs to go a mute, I couldn't hear that Sev 1".

Happy Birthday Emma

Skin Cancer Is A Killer

With summer approaching and temperatures rising it is important to remember that not only should you put on sunscreen you need to maximize and ensure full coverage. A couple of weeks ago I was reminded of this the hard way. Don't let this happen to you!

The CDC provides some helpful tips for sunscreen application (Glad I don't support that one). Visit their site to learn 1. When to apply, 2. How to apply and 3. What to look for when purchasing sunscreen http://www.cdc.gov/MMWR/preview/mmwrhtml/rr5104a3.htm
