Urbandictionary Word of the Day

credit card roulette

A game of chance to decide which person pays for a restaurant meal. Every party contributes a credit/debit card into a hat and the waiter/waitress removes one card at time. The last card removed pays the entire bill.

We played credit card roulette at breakfast and DJ's card was the last one picked. He had to pick up the 200 dollar tab and since he is unemployed the California taxpayers provided the meal.

Revamp Your Plate
In an effort to eliminate the days of plates piled high with meat, potatoes and gravy, and little fruits or vegetables, USDA's MyPlate recommends that half your plate be filled with fruits and vegetables. Worried you can't adjust to this? Follow these simple tips for a healthier nutrition plan:
-Enjoy the foods you love, but eat in moderation.
-Avoid oversized portions.
-Make sure half your plate is fruits and vegetables; a quarter of your plate grains, preferably whole grains; and the last quarter of your plate is filled with lean protein.
-Switch to fat-free or low-fat milk.
-Drink water instead of sugary drinks.
-Compare the sodium in foods like soups, bread and frozen meals, and choose foods with lower numbers.

Rating Descriptors

I blame CEM. Sometimes my mind goes on investigative overdrive and this one starts and ends with her.

Her class wanted to watch Mr Poppers Penguins for their Valentines Day Party at school. The dilemma? It is rated PG for "mild crude humor and some language" which means that all the parents had to sign off on it. With the party approaching she had to go for plan B: Toy Story 3. Since I spent the weekend discussing why ratings exist I am overly sensitive to whats in a rating, descriptors and definitions.

So tonight while watching previews prior to Descendants (highly recommend BTW), a preview for a movie came up “intense prolonged realistically graphic sequences of war violence and for language." huh?

So, at dinner I googled ratings (apparently the ratings board is made up of elected parents. I am so adding this to my bucket list.

For inquiring minds here is how the ratings work:

The Motion Picture Association of America has for the past few years put rating descriptors into their rating boxes. Some of them are straightforward- violence, sex, language, etc.

But, some of them are rather odd. Some other things the MPAA (over-protective parents) are concerned about, apparently:

-zombie violence

-scenes of dental torture

-non-stop ninja action

-lots of language

-hockey rough-housing

-irresponsible gun use

-grossness

slime

-an adolescent punch in the nos

-a bawdy puppet show

-and of course, the all-time famous description, for Twister:"rated PG-13 for intense depictions of very bad weather

Now that you are aware, you will never watch previews the same again, You too can blame CEM.

Oh yeah and it was Grants birthday

My dad used to mock soccer Saturday (God bless him for the years he supported my two youngest sisters).

Yesterday we were at the park by 7 am. 4 games (remote with no pics of Grant) and back home getting ready for Sadies, his greeting didn't come until 9 pm. And the belated blog (still with no Grant pics) is posting a full day late.

We love you and our now preparing for our third game.

Poor REM is bored to tears with Toro basketball season over. We have 2 weeks until tryouts for the competive league

Surviving Lots of Name Changes....

........and answering over and over again - now where do you work?

Now that my children (and mom) finally get it (I work at the 41 hospital chain formerly named CHW but get paid by a company formerly named Perot Systems) I get to explain a new role (I work for Dell in support of existing commercial, education, government and healthcare accounts that are presenting financial/operational or contractual issues. Oh yeah and Dignity Health is once of them).

I have met some awesome people, developed some great relationships and learned more change than you can imagine in the last 5 years and 8 months.




















I love you all. Change is good.
